The Awareness of Light 2010 Singapore Workshop is a unique lighting workshop that provides an opportunity for participants to learn and understand the importance of lighting design and lights in a theatre setting. It's the best place participants - like yourself - can learn what goes on behind the scenes for all the beautiful art performances you watch in Singapore.

The lighting instructor Naomi Shoko Matsumoto has trained under the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in London, the Lumiere et Son Theatre of Australia and the Vienna National Opera House. Having attended a similar workshop in Manila conducted by Shoko in 2008, we noticed the large number of youths participating in this program. At the end of the program, we observed that the response from the youth participants acquired an enthusiastic appreciation for being able to experience such a distinct program. Most participants claim that they were unable to find any other courses or productions that offered a similar experience. On the final day of the workshop, the skills learned were applied to executing a lighting design for a show for the famous Filipino singer Grace Nono at the Sinag Arts Foundation in Mandaluyang, Philippines 2008.

This workshop will take place over 4 days from the 18th to 21st of October at the Substation. Maya Dance Theatre has a number of theatre productions that occur during a year. Participants of this program could possibly look forward to working with Maya for a future production which requires the aid of a lighting crew.
