This funding is to order 100 pairs of sandals (if funding exceeds $1,500, more sandals will be ordered) and deliver them to Singapore, so that they can be placed in stores which want to carry them on consignment.
The amputees in Jakarta were chased off to the streets as the funding from the government was discontinued, resulting in a few starving to death. The Rotary Club of Jakarta has housed them in a village, and instead of continually donating to support them, the funds were used to buy them machines for them to make products like sandals, gates and other crafts, so that they can be dignified and earn their living.
The interchangeable sandals project by Greenyarn (Designed by NUS Students) is then relocated to Jakarta to give them a chance to make customizable sandals, allowing people to pick the sandals they like, and support the amputees by buying their products.
The sandals have a very interesting design, as the straps are totally interchangeable and customizable. You can pick the color of sole you want and match it with a strap you like.
